pre & Post natal exercise

Exercise has been shown to be a vital part of staying fit and healthy during pregnancy and post-partum both for mum and baby. Working with an Exercise Physiologist provides you with the tools and guidance to exercise safely during pregnancy and progressively return to your normal exercise or a moderate to high intensity gym program in a safe way post-natal.

Scientific evidence suggests that physical activity of moderate intensity improves maternal and fetal well-being. Women who continue to exercise during pregnancy usually experience the following:
  • Improved cardiovascular function
  • Limited weight gain and body fat retention
  • Improved digestion
  • Reduced constipation
  • Reduced back pain
  • Improved attitude and mental state
  • Easier labor or reduction in possible complications during labor
  • Reduced odds of cesarean delivery
  • Faster recovery
  • Better fitness level

You will be assessed to ensure you are safe to commence and/or return to exercise.  Our Exercise Physiologist has further training in pre and post natal exercise, and identifying issues which may point to pelvic dysfunction.  We work closely with specialist Women's Heath Physiotherapists and will provide local referral options if it is identified that you require additional assessment prior to commencing exercise to ensure your program is spot on for you.  We want to support you to undertake the best, most appropriate and SAFE exercise program for you, at your time of pregnancy or postpartum.
