Diabetes

At Optimum Exercise Physiology we are committed to helping people with diabetes to live their best life, and have a dually qualified Exercise Physiologist and Diabetes Educator as part of our team to provide the best possible care for our clients living with diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes
There is strong clinical evidence demonstrating that the right exercise prescription  that is undertaken at the appropriate frequency, intensity, time and type, can help to best manage many health aspects associated with Diabetes:
  • Improving blood glucose levels
  • Improving body composition -  the ratio of lean muscle mass and body fat
  • Reducing waist circumference
  • Improving cholesterol
  • Managing blood pressure

It is well documented that managing these aspects of our health significantly reduces the risk of diabetes related complications.

We can design an exercise program that suits your health, fitness and schedule to get the best results for you in helping to manage your conditions.  You may also be eligible for our Diabetes Group program, upon referral from your GP.
Type 1 Diabetes
Exercise is important for the person living with type 1 diabetes as it not only helps to prevent long term complications that can be associated with diabetes, and also helps to reduce the incidence of other chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease later in life.
However, we understand that living with Type 1 diabetes is not without it’s challenges, and many have fears associated with having a 'hypo' when exercising.  As we have an Exercise Physiologist within our team who is also a Diabetes Educator we have knowledge and understanding of all elements of this condition to ensure that we can best help you!
Our team is trained and ready to help you design and implement a safe and effective exercise plan to ensure you remain active and healthy! We can also help with questions like ...
  • 'Can I exercise with Type 1 Diabetes'
  • 'When should I exercise and what are the normal ranges for my blood sugars before, during and after exercise'
  • 'When should I cease exercising', and
  • 'How should I treat a hypo if this happens during exercise'
