Why your Personal Training should be supervised by an Exercise Physiologist

An exercise Physiologist is a degree qualified exercise professional, with specialised training for clients with injury or chronic ailments/disease. Exercise Physiologists boast a vast array of knowledge and experience in health, fitness and exercise. Here are 5 big reasons you should train with a qualified Exercise Physiologist.
  1. Qualification - Exercise Physiologists require a minimum of 4 years at university and are qualified to work with both healthy and special/clinical populations – that is those with certain medical issues or ailments that require specialised care.
  2. Level of Experience - to attain the qualification of Accredited Exercise Physiologist with Exercise and Sports Science Australia, and therefore legally accredited to practice as an Exercise Physiologist (EP), an EP has to undertake 500 volunteer clinical supervised hours.  This ensures that graduates are experienced in the practical application of theory to workplace once they graduate.
  3. Depth of Knowledge - Exercise Physiology is an evidence based profession, which means that our work is backed by a plethora of research.  During university studies EP's undertake extensive studies in a range of subjects such as structural and functional anatomy; human physiology; psychology/ psychosocial / behavioural studies; human and exercise physiology; biomechanics, sport and exercise psychology; motor control / motor learning / skill acquisition; human growth, development and ageing; physiological processes associated with disease and injury; health, fitness and performance assessment; exercise programming and prescription; nutrition, health and body composition to name only few, and each of these are undertaken as a 6 month full time subject.
  4. Health and Safety - The degree of training and work experience that EP’s have means that the level of service and safety is to the highest degree. Training protocols, exercises and progressions are structured in a safe manner, offering the most appropriate level of progression with the lowest risk of injury. EP’s are part of an allied health network and refer on to specialists when appropriate, and can work collectively or individually to help you with your treatment or return to health.
  5. Individualised training - The depth of knowledge extends to injury treatment and prevention and safe exercise intensity and modalities for people with chronic conditions. Exercise is regarded as medicine by exercise physiologists, and our intervention is targeted using clinical knowledge and practices to get the best health outcome for the patient in a safe and timely way.  For those without specific conditions training can be individually catered to achieve optimal health, sports performance, and improve overall well-being.

I guess this is one of the most important posts on why your personal training should be supervised by an exercise physiologist, where the actual issues have been explained so well. Thanks for sharing.
